Freedom to play and enjoy the outdoors

Introducing Best Buds for Schools, where we help young minds grow and blossom through the power of the great outdoors.

We understand the importance of providing children with a break from the constraints of a classroom and providing a fun and nurturing environment that fosters a love for the outdoors and builds friendships within their group.

Whether it's through our weekly outdoor learning sessions for primary and secondary Schools, or our Pop-Up Forest Play Parks for events like Wow Days, we ensure that children of all ages and abilities have a blast and make memories that will last a lifetime.

At Best Buds, we recognise that schools often face challenges when it comes to providing outdoor provision. Many schools have limited resources and budgets that restrict their ability to have access to a forest school teacher or to create a suitable outdoor area for learning and play.

To help overcome these barriers, we've developed a two-pronged approach. Firstly, we offer an outdoor space construction service that helps schools make the most of their available grounds. We tidy and clear existing spaces, build small fenced areas, and even landscape previously unused areas to create an inviting and functional outdoor environment.

Secondly, we provide an "Introduction to Forest School" program which takes place over 6-7 weeks and can be offered to different year groups on a rotating basis. During this time, we engage children in a wide range of fun and educational forest school activities, while also working with the school to further develop their outdoor area. Our aim is to bring the benefits of forest school to as many children as possible.

Nurturing friendships and making memories

Our School sessions are designed to foster the participant’s relationship with the natural environment and promote holistic development, positive mental health, friendship, reliance, confidence, independence, and creativity.

We believe in child/young adult-centered play, development, and learning, with the participants leading their own learning path and us acting as guides to help them on their way.

Some of the activities we offer include den building, child-led play and learning, team-building games, bushcraft, fire lighting, campfire cooking, tool work, knotwork, crafting, and green space management. We also offer mental health and well-being exercises, reflection, seasonal-specific work, gardening skills, low ropes, and hand drumming circles (if the school has hand drums to provide).

We bring all the necessary equipment for our sessions, including tarps for rainy days, climbing ropes, slacklines, fire-making equipment, a range of tools for woodwork, first aid supplies, and garden equipment. We even have large hammocks, which allow up to 48 children to be in the trees at one time.

Children at our school started Forest Schools in September 2022 and they have not stopped talking about it since. When asked what their favourite memories of Year 4 have been so far, they all, resoundingly, say Forest Schools.

Best Buds Forest Schools was of huge benefit to our Year 6 class to set them up for a busy year; time outside of the classroom, learning valuable outdoor and life skills and growing in independence, resilience and teamwork.
